Flag Lowering
Governor Gregoire will direct the flag to be lowered to half-staff on these occasions:
- Memorial Day;
- Peace Officers Memorial Day;
- In the event of the death of a principal federal and state government official; and
- In the event of the death of a member of the armed forces from Washington state while serving on active duty.
Other government entities, citizens and businesses are encouraged to join this recognition.

| September 4, 2008 | Governor Chris Gregoire has directed that flags at all Washington State agency facilities be lowered to half-staff Thursday, September 4, 2008, in memory of U. S. Army Specialist Carlo E. Alfonso of Spokane who was killed in action August 26, in Sadr City, Iraq. Flags should remain at half-staff until sunset Thursday or first thing Friday morning, September 5, 2008. |
