Office of Clean Technology

From energy to advanced materials to clean water and recycling, Washington’s clean tech industry represents a wide range of manufacturing, services and products. With low energy costs and abundant clean energy resources, Washington is leading the nation’s transition to a clean energy economy. The clean tech sector helps grow our economy, protect our environment and ensure the health and well-being of all Washingtonians.

As clean tech business continues to grow around the state, the clean tech sector employs nearly 57,000 workers. Gov. Inslee and the legislature are committed to investing in clean tech R&D, energy innovation and supporting existing clean technology businesses.

In 2006, Washingtonians approved a Renewable Portfolio Standard, I-937, which mandated that 15% of Washington’s electricity come from renewable energy sources, including wind, tidal, biomass and solar. With this mandate being met, Washington’s electricity is over 70% carbon free, and that number is rising.
