Washington, Finland sign cooperative agreement to build economic, innovation partnerships

Governor Bob Ferguson and Finland’s Ambassador to the United States, Leena-Kaisa Mikkola, set a new framework to guide collaboration and trade between Washington and Finland. They gathered at the National Nordic Museum in Seattle to sign a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two regions and launch a new era of partnership on research, academia, innovation and business. This is the first collaborative agreement with a foreign nation Governor Ferguson has signed since taking office in 2025.
Governor Ferguson appoints Haley Wolcott Sebens to Skagit County Superior Court

Today Governor Bob Ferguson announced the appointment of Haley Wolcott Sebens to the position of Skagit County Superior Court Judge. Sebens’ appointment, effective January 1, fills the new position created by a law signed by Governor Ferguson earlier this year. This is the first new position added to the Skagit County Superior Court since 2006.
Governor Ferguson selects 99 Opportunity Zones to encourage private investment

OLYMPIA — Today Governor Bob Ferguson announced the nominations of 99 low-income and rural communities across Washington state for the federal Opportunity Zones 2.0 program. The second-generation program encourages investors, developers and financial institutions to fund real estate development and businesses in exchange for tax incentives. The first generation of the program spurred an estimated $100 billion in private investments nationwide.
Governor Ferguson requests additional FEMA assistance for up to $13.2M to repair infrastructure after wildfires

OLYMPIA — Governor Ferguson submitted an additional request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency for Public Assistance funding to help repair state infrastructure damaged by the devastating wildfires in Central and Eastern Washington. The new request covers permanent repair, restoration, or replacement of damaged public infrastructure, including roads, bridges and utilities, and could total a projected $13.2 million. This brings the total amount of federal Public Assistance Washington has requested for this disaster to over $133 million.
