Health Insurance Pool Board of Directors, Washington State

Provides access to health insurance for people who are unable to obtain coverage in the private marketplace. WSHIP was established under the Washington State Health Insurance Access Act of 1987 (RCW 48.41). The Board of directors develops and approves an uniform screening mechanism for subscribers to enter the pool. The Board also manages the pool, sets assessments on member health plans, and collects premiums from subscribers.

Member Requirements: One member representing each of the following: (a) Health care providers; (b) health insurance agents; (c) small employers; and (d) large employers; and two members from state-wide organizations representing health care consumers.

Health, State Board of

The state board may advise the secretary on health policy issues pertaining to the department of health and the state. Shall provide a forum for the development of public health policy in Washington state. It is authorized to recommend to the secretary the means for obtaining appropriate citizen and professional involvement in all public health policy formulation and other matters related to the powers and duties of the department. It is further empowered to hold hearings and explore ways to improve the health status of the citizenry.
