Gov. Jay Inslee today announced his appointment of Bradley A. Maxa to the Court of Appeals, Division II, District 2. Maxa, a partner and attorney at Gordon Thomas Honeywell in Tacoma for the past 28 years, is the chair of the firm’s Appellate Advocacy Group. He is a seasoned appellate attorney and has appeared before the Court of Appeals numerous times throughout his career.
During his career Maxa has specialized in personal injury litigation, insurance coverage litigation, and appellate advocacy. In addition to his extensive experience as an appellate attorney, Maxa has held various leadership positions over the years and is active in the community. He was the president of the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers from 2001-2002 and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Foundation for Washington State Courts.
“In addition to possessing all the skills that are essential to be an appellate judge, he is also highly respected by the community,” Inslee said. “It is clear that Brad has a strong passion for the law and I am confident that his years of litigation experience will prove to be an exceptional asset for the Court of Appeals. I know Brad will be a diligent, hard-working jurist and add great depth to an already impressive court.”
“Brad is an excellent attorney, as well as a nice person, and he is universally respected throughout the legal community,” said Lisa Worswick, Chief Judge for the Court of Appeals, Division II. “His years of experience and his dedication to the law will make him an excellent appellate judge. “
Maxa is replacing retiring Judge Marywave Van Deren, who has served with distinction since 2004. The appointment is effective August 5th.
