Story Body

Gov. Jay Inslee today announced the appointment of Melissa A. Hemstreet to the Kitsap County Superior Court. Hemstreet has practiced law in Port Orchard for 16 years and currently operates a solo practice where she focuses on family law and criminal defense.

“Melissa has strong ties to Kitsap County, and is highly respected in the legal community,” Inslee said. “Her extensive trial experience, work ethic, and dedication to the community will make her a wonderful addition to the bench.”

Hemstreet is a founding member of the North Kitsap Optimist Club, part of an international organization focused on bettering the lives of children. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon and went on to earn her law degree from Willamette University College of Law in 1997.

Hemstreet is replacing Judge Anna M. Laurie who has served with distinction for nearly 14 years. Her term is effective beginning in July.
