Gov. Jay Inslee issued a statement today on the death of Staff Sgt. Matthew V. Thompson in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
Thompson, 28, of Irvine, Calif., was assigned to A Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
"I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Staff Sgt. Matthew Thompson. Trudi and I extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends and to the military community at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. They are in our thoughts and prayers. His service to our country and his ultimate sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
