Gov. Jay Inslee today announced the appointment of Marcus Glasper as acting director of Washington State Lottery.
Glasper is currently the deputy director at the Washington State Department of Revenue. In his role, he is responsible for the administration of Washington state tax law and management of day-to-day operations. Prior to that role, Glasper served as senior assistant director for administrative services at DOR for 10 years.
"Marcus has a wide breadth of leadership experience in state government,” Inslee said. “The agency will benefit from his collaborative style and willingness to bring some changes to workplace culture. I look forward to working with him.”
"I am honored the governor asked me to serve in this role," Glasper said. "I am excited to work with the Lottery team in this new capacity and continue our mission to support state programs, such as public education."
Glasper has served as assistant deputy secretary at the Department of Corrections and as an engineer and field manager with the U.S. Department of Energy. He began his career at General Motors as a manufacturing supervisor and laboratory technician.
He currently serves on the board of directors for the Washington State Employees Credit Union and served as a commissioner on the Tumwater Planning Commission.
Glasper received the Governor’s Award for Leadership in Management in 2010.
Glasper received his Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Southern University and A&M College and his master's degree in engineering management from Washington State University.
He has taken leadership development for government leaders through the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and an executive management program through the Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington.
Glasper’s appointment is effective on Nov.1, and is for up to six months. The appointment follows the resignation of director Bill Hanson earlier this month, and a search is underway for a permanent director.
