Inslee names James A. Weaver new director of WaTech

Gov. Jay Inslee today named James A. Weaver director of WaTech. Weaver takes over from Vikki Smith who has served as interim director since July.

Weaver is currently the Commonwealth Chief Technology Officer in Pennsylvania where he manages the statewide information technology strategy, direction and implementation. During his tenure in Pennsylvania he helped transform the IT shared services teams which saved considerable resources.

Prior to his role as Pennsylvania CTO, Weaver served has deputy chief information officer and as chief technology officer for the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. While at DHS, he also served as information technology generalist and management analyst.

He has served in the Pennsylvania National Guard for 33 years where he concentrated on personnel information management systems.

“James brings a wealth of experience in state government information technology. He has decades of hands-on knowledge and he will build on the important work that WaTech has done to serve the people of Washington through technology,” Inslee said. “I look forward to working with James, and I extend my deepest thanks to Vikki for stepping in and ably directing the agency over the past several months.”

Weaver has a number of certifications from ITIL (Information Technology Information Libraries, a framework is designed to standardize the selection, planning, delivery and support of IT services). He attended Harrisburg University of Science and Technology where he became a certified government CIO.

He begins the position on December 10.
