Gov. Jay Inslee today issued the following statement on President Trump’s executive orders:
“The state of Washington has a proud history of inclusivity, tolerance and compassion for all residents. Our diversity of people and cultures is a critical part of who we are, both as a state and as a nation. We will not let President Trump’s orders break faith with our state’s fundamental values.
“The president’s executive orders on immigrants signal that the better angels of our nature will not be realized. These actions, if implemented, would be mean-spirited, unnecessary and contrary to our values as Americans.
“We will not be intimidated or divided. The president this week has reminded us that people’s voices are more important than ever. Together, we will resist any effort that would violate Washington’s values, take away the opportunity for higher education or break up hard-working families.
“We will not stand by and allow Huskies and Cougars, and so many others to be turned away from their campuses and our state. They are dreamers and we will not allow this order, or any order, to keep them from their dreams.
“We are not powerless. We will resist any attempt to reduce our nation’s already small contribution to aiding people and families who fall victim to global humanitarian crises.
“Any attempt to compromise the ability of our law enforcement agencies to focus on their job of keeping our communities safe will be resisted.
“It is unclear at this point what these executive orders will really mean, or how much the president can implement without approval from Congress. What we do know is this is just the start of our efforts, not the end. This is the time for people to stand up, speak out and demand action from our representatives in D.C. Each of us has a voice and we will use them.”

El Gobernador Jay Inslee hoy publicó la siguiente declaración de las órdenes ejecutivas del Presidente Trump:
“El Estado de Washington tiene una historia orgullosa de inclusión, tolerancia y compasión para todos los residentes. Nuestra diversidad de gente y culturas es una parte crítica de lo que somos, como Estado y como nación. No dejaremos que las órdenes del Presidente Trump rompan la fe de los valores fundamentales de nuestro Estado.
“Las órdenes ejecutivas del Presidente en los inmigrantes señalan el que no se producirán los mejores ángeles de nuestra naturaleza. Si estas acciones se aplican, sería doloroso, innecesario e irían en contra de nuestros valores como americanos.
“No seremos intimidados o divididos. Esta semana el Presidente nos ha recordado que las voces de las personas son más importantes que nunca. Juntos resistiremos cualquier esfuerzo que violen los valores de Washington, a llevarse la oportunidad para la educación superior o romper con familias trabajadoras.
"No vamos a apoyar ni permitir que los Huskies y Pumas, y tantos otros que sean rechazados de sus campos escolares y nuestro Estado. Son soñadores y no permitiremos que esta orden, o cualquier otra orden, los mantenga alejados de sus sueños.
"No somos impotentes. Resistiremos cualquier intento de reducir la pequeña contribución de nuestra nación para ayudar a las personas y familias que han caído como víctimas de las crisis humanitarias mundiales.
"Resistiremos a cualquier intento de poner a riesgo la capacidad de nuestras fuerzas de seguridad encargados de hacer cumplir la ley para concentrarse en su trabajo de mantener nuestras comunidades seguras.
En este momento no está claro lo que estas órdenes ejecutivas realmente significan, o lo que el Presidente puede implementar sin la aprobación del Congreso. Lo que sí sabemos es que esto no es el final sino el comienzo de nuestros esfuerzos. Este es el momento para que la gente se levante, hable y exija acción de nuestros representantes en D.C. Cada uno de nosotros tiene una voz y se hará uso de ellos.
