Inslee appoints Kathryn Leathers general counsel

Story Body

Gov. Jay Inslee today announced the appointment of Kathryn Leathers as General Counsel. Leathers previously served as Senior Counsel for the House Democratic Caucus at the Washington State House of Representatives, and Legislative Liaison for the Washington State Bar Association.

“Kathryn brings decades of experience to this position, and I look forward to having her advice, perspective, and counsel on our team,” Inslee said. “She has an impressive legal mind and shares my passion for justice and defending the values we share as Washingtonians.”

Leathers has over 20 years of legal experience, in both private practice and as a non-partisan attorney in the House of Representatives. She received her Bachelor’s from Western Washington University and graduated cum laude from the Gonzaga University School of Law.

Leathers will succeed Nicholas Brown, who served as General Counsel to the governor since 2013. Brown left the governor’s office in June of this year to join a law firm in Seattle.

Leathers begins Sept. 16, 2017.
