Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee

Serves in an advisory capacity to the Governor and Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs on state programs related to veterans, their dependents, and survivors.

Member Requirements: The governor appoints seventeen members, consisting of:
(a) One representative of the Washington soldiers' home and colony at Orting and one representative of the Washington veterans' home at Retsil.
(b) One representative each from the three congressionally chartered or nationally recognized veterans service organizations as listed in the current "Directory of Veterans Service Organizations" published by the VA with the largest number of active members in the state of Washington as determined by the director.
(c) Ten members representing congressionally chartered or nationally recognized veterans service organizations listed in the Directory and having at least one active chapter within the state of Washington.
(d) Two members shall be veterans at large.
Organizations submit up to three nominees to the DVA director who forwards them to the governor. In making the appointments, the governor shall consider these recommendations or request additional nominations. No organization shall have more than one official representative on the committee at any one time.
*No member may serve more than two consecutive terms, with vacancy appointments to an unexpired term not considered as a term.*

Veterinary Board of Governors

Examines candidates for licensing and registration, and investigates and holds hearings on violations of the regulatory law. They also recommend and adopt rules and regulations for administering the regulatory law.

Member Requirements: The board shall consist of nine members. The governor appoints six active and licensed practitioners of veterinary medicine, surgery, and dentistry with no more than two from same congressional district, and one general public member. Additionally, the governor shall appoint one licensed veterinary technician, and one licensed veterinary technician or licensed veterinarian.

At the time of their appointment the licensed members of the board must be actual residents of the state in active practice as licensed practitioners of veterinary medicine, surgery, and dentistry, or employed as a licensed veterinary technician, as applicable.

Administers the Volunteer Firefighters and Reserve Officers' Relief and Pension Act.
