Uniform Law Commission

Drafts and recommends uniform laws on subjects in which uniformity of legislation in the various states is desirable. The Commission was formed for the promotion of uniformity of legislation in the United States.

Member Requirements: The governor shall appoint three qualified persons. A qualified person is defined as a resident of the state of Washington and a member of the state bar association of this or another state, who is or has been a judge, law professor, legislator, or practicing attorney.

The governor may also appoint to the commission any person who has served at least twenty years on the commission and who is a life member in the national conference of commissioners on uniform state laws or its successor.

The code reviser shall also serve as a member of the commission.

Universal Health Care Commission

The universal health care commission is established to create immediate and impactful changes in the health care access and delivery system in Washington and to prepare the state for the creation of a health care system that provides coverage and access for all Washington residents through a unified financing system once the necessary federal authority has become available.

Member Requirements: The commission consists of 14 members, seven of which are appointed by the Governor.

Utilities and Transportation Commission

Regulates rates, services, facilities, and practices of state's investor-owned utility and transportation companies to protect consumers ensuring that utility and transportation services are fairly priced, available, reliable, and safe. The Commission also regulates businesses including electric, telecommunications, natural gas, and water, and in-state household movers, solid waste carriers, private ferries, and inter-city busses.
